November Rain... in May!

Ok. So tomorrow is June 1st, so this weather better smarten up! Haven't done anything the last two days. I did manage to find a large chunk of styrofoam for forming the front lip. Maybe tomorrow after work.

This week I'd like to get the exhaust fabbed up and the front lip curing. If I have time, I'll wash the interior and resand the wing. :)

No pictures, it's cold and wet!

She Speaks!

After hours of listening to her growl, jitter, and chatter, my little MR2 finally made some non-mechanical music!

Speakers and CD player are in, the car sounds marvelous. I cannot BELIEVE how well it sounds with just two front dash speakers. I can now work on the car (with the battery charger attached) and listen to music! Things will start moving much quicker!

Painting the spoiler, I'm an idiot. I sanded it with some very rough sand paper to get rid of some nasty bubbling black paint. Then I didn't follow my own rules and painted right away, without wet sanding to atleast 800 grit. The result? I nice shiny black wing with a shit load of scratch marks. Time to resand! (and repaint.. hope I have enough black left!)

Windshield wipers are repainted, they look nice now that they are glossy and not rust red! The plastic trim peices, omg, so incredible. That Krylon Fusion spray is amazing.

Tried to clean the interior... One of the previous owners had a dog, with a lot of hair. Ugh. Seats are out and in the process of being cleaned. Very dirty seats..

That's all for now folks. Volunteering all day tomorrow, but Sunday I'll try to either clean the interior, paint/sand the wing, or fab up that exhaust.

Cheers!

Blast those Speakers!

I have a stereo and some speakers! Thank you Laurie & Josh!
I'll be throwing those in tomorrow after work! Two smaller speakers w/ tweeters in the front, haven't decided if I'll throw the larger ones into the door or behind the seats.

It's raining, again. Sanding is done, nearly. I don't like the way the driver side turned out, I'm going to redo it with 1000 grit before the clear gets throw on. Pulled off some of the back trim and the spoiler. I'll be picking up some black gloss tomorrow for the wing, and some black rubber paint for the other trim peices.

Things are coming along nicely. Front half of the car's trim to remove and paint, then clear coat the car, then reinstall trim. I don't think I have the nerves to repaint the car. I will redo the door jams though... those are pretty icky. Then it's off to fashion a front lip. That's it, then the body is done!

Wheels, mechanics, exhaust, interior to deal with after that! :)

Rain, rain go away

No pictures today. Another day of rain. Finished wet sanding the left side of the car. Only the engine area & back end to finish up. Went and bought some clear coat to finish off the paint once it's all done. Also picked up some Satin Black to detail the wheels.

So... Not much progress tonight. But my pile of car related goodies is growing on the side of my desk! :)

Enter Sandman!

Driver side, untouched.
See the horrible paint? (and the polishing compound...)
Huge Exhaust... STICKERS REMOVED!
Passenger Side, I wet sanded this with 1000 grit. Might try something a little lighter tomorrow.

So I went out and bought some body shaping and fixing goodies. After sanding the entire passenger side I've come to the conclusion that I will be adding a few layers of paint to the car. The fun interesting part? I'll be doing it with a roller and some Tremclad. Calm down.. it should turn out alright.

Started sanding yesterday after work, it's raining right now. I was wetsanding in the rain, but it's cold. I finished up the top and came inside.

The car made the trip north with no problems. Big thanks to Stovall for being my wingman on the way up! 1st gear was very shaky, I was thinking oily clutch, bad flywheel, or a mixture of the two. Looked under the car to find my rear motor mount was in piss poor condition. The bolt through the middle was basically resting on the bottom of the mount (instead of the center!). I ordered some Poly Urethane mount inserts from Twos are us. I guess I'll have a lot more engine vibration in the car, but hey, it should hold the engine in place! I still think some oil may be on the clutch, but I'll have to get my new mounts installed before I try it out. This should atleast tame it down.

Also, I found a small oil leak, about 2 drops per day. Feeling around the distributor I found some fresh oil. So I went and ordered a seal kit for that as well. Looks like I've got lots of little things to keep me busy.

Oh, and sad news. The Lexus exhaust will not fit straight in. Toying with the idea of either directing the exhaust out the side of the car (behind the wheel), mounting it in the middle of the car (out the back), or placing it were the stock unit goes and fabbing in some twirls and loops in the exhaust tubing. My coworker has a rusting Mazda 323 in her backyard, apparently with a new catalytic converter. I may try to fab that in as well if she wants to part with it.

Thats it.. Peace out. :)

Muffler Mayhem

Well, I had the MR2 sitting at the condo for 2 weeks, needed something to keep me busy. I went to work prettying up an old muffler off my Lexus. Should keep the MR2 down to an audible growl.

The MR2 Come-eth

So after chatting with a delightly MR2 seller from Edmonton, I've found my ride. Went down and picked it up for a princely sum, and it sat in my Condo parking spot for two weeks until I could pick it up properly for a long 4.5h trip home.

Here are some cell phone pictures I snapped!

Things I noticed: Shaky first gear, rusty lip, VERY poor paint, LOUD exhaust.
